The Anoka County Community Resource Guide was developed to help promote self-sufficiency for residents of Anoka County, MN. Self-sufficiency is being able to provide for yourself and your family without undue hardship. The resources in this book are available to you and your family, but YOU must take the first step.

The Anoka County Community Resource Guide was compiled by volunteers and staff of Anoka County Community Action Program, Inc. (ACCAP). This directory is only current as of date of publication, August 2008. Criteria for selecting the agencies listed in the directory was based on recommendations from an advisory committee. Information regarding services was provided by the agencies themselves. Inclusion of the agencies and services listed in the Resource Guide is not a recommendation. No verification or evaluation of the services offered by the listed agencies was conducted by ACCAP.

Helplines and Crisis Numbers  (11 pages) Helplines and crisis numbers related to: Abuse – Physical and/or Sexual, Alcohol/Chemical Dependency, Children, Medical, and more.

 

Basic Needs  (13 pages) Resources and information related to: Food, Food Shelves, Housing/Household Management, Recycling/Waste, Management, Subsidized Housing, Subsidized Apartments, Transitional Housing, Emergency Shelter, Clothing, and Transportation.

 

Health and Wellness  (18 pages) Resources and information related to medical needs including: Special Needs Programs, Hospitals, Low Cost Clinics, Dental, Chemical Health, and Mental Health.

 

Employment  (3 pages)  Resources and information related to job rehabilitation, job search, employment, and more. Also includes information on Metro Civil Service Jobs and National Service.

 

Financial  (4 pages)  Resources and information related to Financial Assistance, Counseling, and Education. Learn how to build or rebuild your credit, build savings, prepare to buy a home, create a working budget, stretch your family’s budget, and more.

 

Legal  (4 pages)  Resources and information including advocacy, family law, child support, child protection, workers compensation, public defense, victims services, lawyer referral, civil legal matters, mediation, human rights, tax assistance, legal aid, and more.

 

Education  (8 pages)  Resources and information on education for children and adults including literacy, learning disabilities, GED, English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) classes, adult basic education (ABE), colleges and technical schools, school district offices, community education departments, special needs, parenting, child development, preschool, and more.

 

Early Childhood Care and Education  (4 pages) Resources and information including early intervention, preschool, preschool screening, baby sign language, childcare referral and assistance, and more.

 

Family Services  (4 pages) Resources and information on parenting, parent support, child abuse prevention, child safety, car and booster seats, pregnancy, baby clothing and equipment, and more.

 

Community Involvement  (1 page) Resources and information for agencies and organizations in your community who/which are working to make it a better place and are looking for community members to help them do it.

 

Youth Services  (9 pages) Resources and information intended for youth and their families including hotlines, shelter, housing, & transitional housing, drop-in centers, health & wellness, mental health & counseling, and other resources.

 

For Seniors Only  (18 pages) Resources and information for seniors including outreach & referral, local senior transportation services, food, home services, safety & security checks, health & wellness, mental health & companionship programs, adult day programs, supportive housing, legal and/or advocacy, educational opportunities, employment opportunities, social opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and more.  For senior citizen resources, you can also call the Senior Information Line at (763) 783-4707.


Veteran Services  (2 pages) Resources and information for military/veterans and their families.

 

Multicultural Resources  (4 pages)  Agencies, resources, and information for cultural populations. Services include advocacy, language classes, citizenship, legal help, adult basic education, job search, and more.
