SENIOR COMPANION RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD

ACCAP is proud to announce that one of our Senior Companion volunteers won the prestigious “Spirit of Service” Award presented by the Corporation for the National and Community Service. The award was presented to Senior Companion, Sharon Padula at the 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service held in San Fransico, CA on June 23rd.

Sharon competed with more than 350 other senior volunteers nominated across the United States and she proudly represented Minnesota, the Senior Companion Program (administered statewide by Lutheran Social Services) and ACCAP!

Sharon volunteered over 1000 hours last year, serving Anoka County seniors as  a dedicated Senior Companion, visiting clients weekly, taking them to medical appointments, grocery stores, senior centers/senior dining, etc.  She has had a dramatic impact on the lives of her clients and has been an integral part in keeping her clients independent and a part of their community.

Sharon is an excellent example of older adults making a significant difference within our community. CONGRATUALTIONS, SHARON!!!!

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a special tax benefit for hard working people who earn low and moderate incomes.  Child Tax Credit is a federal tax credit worth up to $1,000 for each child under 17 claimed as a dependent on the worker's tax return.  These are refunds, meaning families and individuals can get the money if they qualify, even if they owe no income tax. Find out more about it in a two-page flyer here and/or click on the following links:
